Vasari's
Table
Shown here in cherry
|
Vasari
lived from 1511 until 1554. He had a table in his home in
Arezzo, Italy that inspired me to make this piece. He was
a friend of Michelangelo and was famous for his book, "Lives
of the Artists."
I
wanted to incorporate more carved handwork in our furniture
and the top decorative surround is copied from the original,
as are the molded surrounds to the panels. The original also
had large turned legs with massive lower crossbars.
This
hand-carved decoration is a part of furniture making that
is very hard to replicate using machinery and is very much
to do with "working" the wood.
The
table is available with a heavily hand-planed top or regular
hand-planed top.
