Return
to Modern Furniture Artisans & Designs
As
a designer craftsman I see furniture making as an opportunity
to explore the union of function and art. I want to create
furniture that is a joy to live with, will last for many generations
and grow in value. I draw my inspiration from nature as well
as other woodworkers, architects, and period styles. I see
furniture as an expression of our relationship to the natural
world in the context of our home environment.
My
career in woodworking began in 1983 in Roseburg, Oregon, where
I apprenticed in a small cabinet shop for three years. In
1987 I opened my own woodworking shop in Vermont. Over the
years my work has progressed into studio furniture making,
which has always been my dream.
In
addition to running a full time furniture studio in Windsor,
Vermont I am also a part time woodworking instructor at Dartmouth
College's Hopkins Center.

Nexus Coffee
tables. Nexus: That which joins together; a means of connection.
This series of sculptural coffee tables explores various ideas
of a focal point that unites and bonds two dynamically opposed
arcs. Some of these ideas have organic themes; others are geometric.
Each table is a unique sculpture that will make a stunning accent
to any modern living room or office. Materials: solid cherry,
wenge, or other contrasting woods, sometimes stone, glass or metal.
The top is an elliptical oval of 1/2" tempered glass with a polished
beveled edge. Dimensions: 36" W, 52" L, and 15" T .

| Trillium
Chair. As if from the brush strokes of a Japanese calligrapher,
the Trillium Chair is beauty and comfort created from simple graceful
lines. This technically challenging and labor intensive design requires
about forty-five hours of work per chair. The result of all this effort
is a uniquely sculptural chair that is a wonderful marriage of form
and function. Materials are Natural Cherry and Ebony. Dimensions:
38"H, 22"W, and 21" D. Call for pricing timing and shipping quote. Photographed
by Thomas Ames. |

Bound
to Rock Coffee Table. Centuries
of tumbling in the surf have given a near perfect symmetry to this
granite beach rock, which has been the inspiration for this table.
The arching wooden limbs bound and lashed to the rock create the illusion
of the focal point being compressed. The combined elements of the
piece give it a nautical feeling that expresses my affinity with the
sea. The top is a circular 1/2" tempered glass with a polished
beveled edge. This table can be made in an elliptical version, as
well. Dimensions: 42" diameter, 15"-17" tall. Call for pricing, timing and shipping quote. |
