Robert Fletcher's twenty-nine year career as a professional woodworker began in 1972. He owned and operated an antique restoration shop in Cambridge, Vermont, where he and his partner repaired and finished thousands of pieces. It was during this time that he studied many different furniture styles, and learned which joinery techniques would withstand the test of time. Robert then moved on to making some of the original music boxes for The Porter Music Box company. The construction of these ornate cases required a high degree of accuracy, and forced Robert to hone his carving, veneering, and wood turning skills. Perceiving that he had a knack for wood turning and recognizing the need for a wood turner in his area, Robert then started a wood turning business, designing and turning thousands of furniture parts and architectural pieces. This varied career has exposed Robert to all aspects of furniture style, design, and construction, and has made him a true "Master" woodworker.

In 1997 Robert went into business with his son-in-law, Steven Chase, forming the Robert Fletcher Furniture Designs Corporation. Our mission is to build the highest quality, hand-crafted furniture available, custom fitted to meet the needs of our clients. The designs and joinery we use are rooted in the furniture styles of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Hand-cut dovetails, superior quality mortise and tenon joinery, and hand-rubbed finishes are the standard on a piece from our company. Whether you are interested in a hand-planed, hand-painted folk art finished piece or a highly figured tiger maple Highboy, you can be assured that you are receiving the finest quality furniture available.

You can reach us at the RFFD shop by calling 802-644-2258 or email RFFD@pshift.com, or call our showroom, The Historic Furniture Loft at 802-644-2828. Thank you for your interest, and we hope to hear from you soon.
